Know Your Rights

Disability Insurance Checklist

Navigating a disability claim can be overwhelming and complex. That’s why it’s important to have an experienced professional on your side—someone who understands the process and can advocate for your rights.

1.
Medical Documentation

Favorable medical reports/records that substantiate your total disability should be submitted to the insurance carrier.

2.
Social Security Disability

Have you filed for Social Security Disability? If not, you should do so immediately.

3.
Physician Certification

Are you totally disabled (i.e., has a physician certified your disability)?

4.
Proof of Loss Filing

The proof of loss should be filed as soon as possible. What is the proof of loss filing deadline?

5.
State Disability Benefits

Have you filed for State disability benefits?

6.
Communication Records

Remember to document proof of receipt of all communications with the insurance company/administrator.

7.
Appeals & Administrative Record

Claims are decided based on review of your administrative record. Therefore, you must ensure that all new evidence documenting disability is submitted at the time of the initial appeal.
